Please Welcome Anita Das to the Montrose Center!

Please help us welcome the new LGBTQ Health Education and Outreach Specialist, Anita Das!

Anita will be overseeing important LGBTQ women’s program such as AssistHers and LHI. Anita is a queer Asian American who has worked as an educator and a counselor across the globe. As the child of immigrant parents, Anita grew up navigating different cultures and also eating really spicy food. As a result, she is interested in exploring intersectionality and identity, particularly for queer people of color in America. Anita still loves eating spicy food, and she is always looking for new places to eat. One of her goals is to find the best tacos in Houston.

As the new LGBTQ Health Education and Outreach Specialist at the Montrose Center, Anita is excited to work with the LGBTQ+ population in Houston to help address health disparities for underserved communities. She is passionate about queer women’s health and empowering people to live healthier and happier lives. In the past, Anita has worked with the Racial Empowerment Collective under Dr. Stevenson, where she helped research how identity-based stressors affect people’s health and wellbeing. As such, she believes in the importance of mental health/wellness, trauma-informed care, and culturally informed practices. For her own self-care, Anita enjoys practicing yoga and learning how to bake bread.

Anita holds a Master’s degree in counseling from the University of Pennsylvania. In her spare time, she can be found reading YA novels, wandering outdoors, and looking for appropriate media representation.
