Because Great LGBTQ Communities Begin With Great LGBTQ Community Centers

Aw Shucks!

Montrose Counseling Center is proud to be affiliated with Centerlink in observing Saturday, September 15 as LGBTQ Community Center Awareness Day.

LGBT Center Awareness Day was founded by CenterLink: The Community of LGBT Centers to increase widespread awareness of the vital services offered by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community centers and to promote the central role LGBTQ centers play in local communities, as well as in the LGBTQ movement.

The mission of MCC’s community space is to serve as a unifying focal point for Houston’s diverse gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer communities, and to provide a home for the nurture and celebration of our organizations, institutions and culture.

We are the hub of community events and organizing, houses a number of resident organizations such as Pride Houston, PFLAG Houston, Gulf Coast Archive & Museum of GLBT History, Lesbian Health Initiative, Dignity Houston, and serves as the gathering place for dozens of civic, service and social organizations. We host an average of 150 events each month and welcome more than 40,000 visitors per year.

The Center’s facilities are open 7 days a week whenever there is a scheduled event taking place. We are located in the heart of Houston’s historic Montrose neighborhood at 401 Branard Street on the first floor above the covered parking area.

Make the Center Better! LOVE YOUR BLOCK Landscaping Party on Saturday, October 6

Calling everyone with a green thumb!

This summer MCC was one of several projects chosen to receive a grant from the City of Houston Office of the Mayor to improve the appearance of our block for the benefit of the neighborhood. We will plant climbing vegetation, such as star jasmine or honeysuckle, along the border of the fence line on Branard and Bute streets. These blooming vines will provide attractive evergreen foliage and shade to the green space/sidewalk border, and partially cover the fence as well as conceal most of the parking lot from outside view.

We plan to plant hearty perennials—such as lantana, cape plumbago and dwarf oleander—around the base of the tree clusters facing Branard Street to add livelier color to the green space.

Montrose Counseling Center invites you to join our LOVE YOUR BLOCK landscaping party from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 6! To volunteer, please contact Jay at 713-529-0037 x395.
