Community Unites, Raising More Than $325,000 to Build a LGBTQ-Affirming Senior Housing Center in Houston

An Oz of thanks and a tornado of gratitude for everyone who took part in this weekend’s official launch of “There’s No Place Like Home,” our capital campaign to build an LGBTQ-affirming senior housing center in Houston. The center will be the 2nd largest of its kind in the nation, the 1st in the South, and one of only a handful in existence. It will be a place where LGBTQ seniors can retire in dignity and in community.

This could not have happened without the support of our community, and boy, did you answer the call! Thank you for joining together to honor the LGBTQ senior heroes who fought so diligently, for so many years, for the rights we now enjoy.

This weekend’s launch began with a VIP party at the beautiful home of Thomas O’Neill, Brent Whiteley, and Noah Millsap. The exclusive party was by invitation only and reserved for top donors whose support made the rest of the weekend possible. These guests were treated to a private acoustic performance by British Pop sensation, Abigail.

On sold out Saturday, Dorothy, the Wicked Witch, Glenda the Good Witch, the Tin Man, Lion, Scarecrow, and 325 of their closest friends gathered at the Buffalo Soldiers Museum to celebrate in a Wizard of Oz themed event full of amazing performances by Miss Conception, Tommie Ross, Angelina DM Trailz, and Abigail as well as heartfelt testimonials about the importance of the senior housing center. Even former Mayor and Honorary Campaign Co-Chair Annise Parker shared her passion for the project.

Sunday Brunch was also a sold out event and brought together 300 individuals to close out the weekend’s festivities. Sister Helen Holy served as our host and had us all in laughter for hours with her witty roasts of everyone in attendance. Miss Conception again had our rapt attention, and Angelina DM Trailz took our breath away with her violin solo.

Huge thanks to sponsors OutReach United, Concierge Travel, Jim Benton of Houston, EastWest Bank, DiosanaGroup Properties powered by Keller Williams, LifeSmiles by Dr. Randy Mitchmore, My Nurse Home Care, Inc., Haute Pets, Midtown Financial Group, OutSmart Magazine, and TexanPlus HMO, for making the event possible. We also want to thank the following community groups who supported the project: The Empire of the Royal Sovereign and Imperial Court of the Single Star, M.E.N,  Inc., Texas United Charities, and Boardwalk Investment Group, which includes Hamburger Mary’s, Bayou City Bar, & Eagle Houston.
