More than 250 LGBTQIA+ Youth Celebrate Prom June 5

On Sunday, June 5, the Montrose Center held its annual LGBTQIA Youth Prom, benefiting Hatch Youth Services. After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, we were delighted to bring back this rite of passage for our community’s youth. More than 250 teenagers, ages 13-20, joined us for event. This year’s theme, selected by the youth, was Elegant Horror, and Numbers Night Club was transformed for the occasion, with plenty of cobwebs, spiders, skulls, and frightening characters.

In addition to the youth, more than 100 Hatch Youth supporters joined us for the VIP Adult Reception. Their generous support underwrote all the costs of the Prom, which was free for youth to attend. The Prom is one of several annual celebrations for the youth, including participation in the annual Pride Houston 365 celebration. Watch us open the Pride Parade downtown on June 25! A group from Chevron volunteered at the food buffet to keep the youth fed and happy.

We couldn’t have done it without our amazing team! Huge thanks to our top sponsors Numbers Night Club, our amazing venue who took wonderful care of us, and to Legacy Community Health. A round of applause and giant hug to our Host Blackberri and to the Space Kiddettes for deejay’ing. Thank you also to the 50+ volunteers who ran the event, including spectacular teams from Chevron, The Gap, Houston Methodist Global Health Care Services, KPMG, Old Navy, and Target. Shout out to the volunteer team of local stylists who were on-site to help beautify our youth and help add a little makeup gore to go with the theme.

Deejays the Space Kiddettes kept the youth on the dance floor all night!
